Today, I was watching, Elementary Season 2, and in one of its episodes this archeological theory came up.
Well, this theory is about the extinction of dinosaurs, but it could be used to understand any extinction. The theory suggests that if dinosaurs that extinct due to meteor collision on the surface of the earth, but claims that some of them survived the collision, and eventually extinct but after the event.
So basically, there is a layer which is known as the KT layer, which represents the event of a collision. In the depths, the fossils found below that layer were extinct during the event. But, the fossils found above the KT layer are actually the ones who died after the event. They survived the collision.
This theory is quite fascinating. I am going to learn about this a little more. And regularly update it here on my blog if found something equally fascinating.
